Each summer, the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival showcases an exceptional
group of musicians from around the world. Their level of artistry combined with
Artistic Director, James Tocco's imaginative programming has placed the Great
Lakes Chamber Music Festival among the top in the country. National recognition
has been garnered in such esteemed publications as The New York Times, the Wall
Street Journal, and Travel and Leisure Magazine.
Even with talented artists and
successful concerts, ticket sales provide less than half of the Festival's revenue.
It is important to keep ticket prices reasonable, so that high-caliber chamber
music is widely accessible.
The Festival has been fortunate to be embraced by many generous individuals who
have supported its mission and activities over the years. In addition to spawning
world-class performances, contributions also enable growing educational and community
outreach programs. These include pre-concert lectures, masterclasses with Festival
artists that are free to the public, as well as the esteemed Shouse Institute,
which assists young artists on the brink of great careers.
There are many ways to contribute to the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival.
Donations are the catalyst for enabling the Festival to grow and succeed. In
addition to the following categories, you may add a tax-deductible donation to
your ticket order.
The Annual Fund:
General operating support helps underwrite the costs of concerts, artists and
the daily activities associated with running a Festival. Donations of $25 or
more will be acknowledged in the program book if made by May 11, 2007.
Special or Honorary Gifts:
Celebrate a friend's birthday, or a family member's graduation, marriage or
retirement. Honor the memory of a loved one. Honorary gifts are a wonderful way
to personalize a donation to the GLCMF while giving a unique gift to your
closest friends or family. We will send an acknowledgement letter to you and the
recipient.
Stock Gifts:
In addition to checks and credit cards, donations can be made with appreciated
stock and other marketable securities. Contact Suzanne Rozmary for
assistance: rozmary@greatlakeschambermusic.com or 248.559.2097.

Endowment Funds:
An endowment fund provides a unique means of contributing for those people
interested in making a lasting impact on the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival.
Endowment funds are invested for the long-term, helping provide lasting stability
while supplying additional revenue each year through returns gained on the investment.
To date, donors have contributed over $300,000 to the Great Lakes Chamber Music
Festival through endowment funds established at the Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan.
The Festival has established several funds at the Community Foundation.
Here is a brief description of each:
Beverly Franzblau Baker
Young Artist Fund
The Fund was established by a gift from Beverly Baker in 2007. Each year, the proceeds from this endowment will be used to sponsor the appearances at the Festival of a young professional performer.
Henry Meyer
Endowed Violin Chair
The Chair has been established in memory of Henry Meyer, long time violinist of the LaSalle Quartet and the beloved founding director of the Festival’s Shouse Institute. Once it has reached its goal, this fund will support a wonderful violinist at the Festival each year.
Rev. Msgr. Anthony M. Tocco
Endowed Composition Chair Fund
Established in 2006 in honor of Rev. Msgr. Anthony Tocco through the Estate of the late Festival supporter, Wilda C. Tiffany, this fund’s proceeds will bring new compositions to life. The first work funded in part by this fund was Paul Schoenfield’s Refractions, premiered June 15-16, 2006.
Ruth Laredo
Endowed Piano Chair Fund
Established in 2004 to honor the late pianist and Detroit native, Ruth Laredo. Returns on the investment will be used to underwrite a Festival pianist each year. In 2007, that honor goes to Jeremy Denk.
Eugene Istomin
Endowed Piano Chair Fund
Established by James Tocco, this fund created an endowed chair in the name of Eugene Istomin, one of the great pianists of the 20th century. In past years, the honor has gone to Ursula Oppens (2004), Jeremy Denk (2005), and Wu Han (2006).
Paul Katz Cello Chair Fund
in Memory of Morris D. Baker
A cello chair established by Beverly Baker in memory of Morris D. Baker, the Paul Katz Endowed Cello Chair supports a brilliant cellist at the Festival each year. For the past two Festivals, the honor has gone to Andrés Díaz. The fund will bring Andrés to the Festival again in 2007.
The Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival Fund
This fund was established in honor of James Tocco with a bequest from Carol Harford, a close friend of Catherine Filene Shouse (for whom the Shouse Institute is named). Because the fund is structured to support the Festival into perpetuity, donors can be assured that their contribution will assist the Festival for many years into the future.
How to make a gift to a Festival Endowment Fund
Donations to any of the above funds may come in the form of cash,
credit card, check, appreciated stock, or other marketable securities. Donations should
be sent to the Festival office: 20300 Civic Center Drive, Suite 100, Southfield, MI 48076.
Please be sure to make a note of which fund you wish to support.
Donations may also be sent directly to the Community Foundation for
Southeast Michigan at 333 West Fort Street, Suite 2010, Detroit, MI 48226-3134.
Please be sure to indicate on your check both "Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival"
and which fund you wish to support.
For a limited time, the Community Foundation is matching gifts of over
$1,000 to the endowed Festival funds. New gifts are matched on a $1: $2 basis. For example:
a gift of $1,000 is matched with a $500 contribution from the Community Foundation. This
incentive is a result of a generous gift from the Kresge Foundation to the Community
Foundation, and is only available for a limited time.

Planned Giving
There are many ways to ensure the future of the Great Lakes Chamber Music
Festival through a commitment made today. "Planned gifts" of cash, securities or other
assets can provide the donor with tax benefits, while helping sustain the long-term excellence
of the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival. A charitable bequest can save on estate taxes
and create a meaningful legacy to assure that Festival programs continue for future generations.
With a planned gift to GLCMF, you may make a larger contribution than current
income permits. Charitable gifts made through estate planning can by fully deductible for tax
purposes. These gifts also may allow donors to endow a program or project in which they have
a special interest.
For additional information about planned giving, please contact Maury Okun at
okun@greatlakeschambermusic.com or 248.559.2097.
If you have already written the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival into your will or trust fund, please let us know. We will thank you often in your lifetime!
